NASCAR driver Kyle Busch has died at the age of 41, according to statements released by Richard Childress Racing and NASCAR.
In a joint statement, NASCAR called Busch “a future Hall of Famer” and praised his impact on the sport, describing him as one of the most talented and competitive drivers of his generation. The organization also shared condolences for his wife Samantha, their children, and the entire Busch family.
Earlier in the day, Richard Childress Racing revealed that Busch had been hospitalized with a severe illness following the May 10 Cup Series race at Watkins Glen. During the race, Busch reportedly requested medical assistance over the radio but still managed to finish in eighth place.
Despite his health issues, Busch continued racing in the days that followed, including a Truck Series victory on May 15 and an appearance in the NASCAR All-Star Race on May 17.
